Organizing for the holidays

Tracy Paye

It's that time of year again. Christmas ornaments get pulled out from the depths of garages, packages line up at the front door and schedules get jam packed.

With all this holidays madness, the thought of even trying to organize during this time might feel like you're being pushed to the brink of insanity.

But, would you believe, it's the very act of organizing and purging itself that can bring some sense of peace and joy to your holidays?

Check out my tips and tricks for quick and simple ways to organize the holiday zone in your garage and still have time to celebrate the holidays.

Organizing for the Holidays

Tip #1 Store Holiday Decor in Less Valuable Real Estate
Since holiday decor is accessed less frequently, it's best to put it in less valuable real estate spaces such as the top shelf of a garage rack or on a ceiling rack.  This will save space in the valuable real estate areas for the items you need to access more often.

Tip #2 Use Holiday Bins

There's nothing more delightful then pulling your Christmas decor out of holiday bins. It will make you feel better knowing you stored them with care.

Not only do they look good, but make distinguishing your Christmas decor from the rest of your stuff a lot easier.  Plus, they are more stable then boxes or mismatched bins when stacked.

Tip #3 Sort & Purge Your Holiday Items
Holiday time is the best time to sort and purge your holiday items. Sort items into categories of like items like ornaments, gift wrapping and decor.  Use this time to also get rid of broken and outdated items.  Come next Christmas, holiday decorating time will be so much easier and faster.
